First Fundraising Item Now Available (pics at end)!!!

We now have our first custom apparel item available for purchase just in time for Christmas!  Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue has boy short underwear available for $15.00 each (tax already included) in sizes S, M, & L.  We can ship the item but ask that the buyer cover the shipping due to all after tax proceeds go directly to the Rescue.  I know the USPS Flat Rate Shipping small box is $4.95.  However, I am more than happy to see what it costs to ship in a bubble wrapped envelope if it is cheaper.

We are asking for payment directly from PayPal to PayPal so that there are no fees involved in the transactions.  Currently we have 4 pairs of Small, 4 pairs of Medium, & 1 pair of Large available for sale.  Two of the Larges need to be remade and one has already been sold.  If we do not have your size and have interest in additional pairs of this style we will reorder and have them ready ASAP.

PLEASE e-mail hartmanshaven@gmail.com BEFORE you purchase so that we can make sure your size is available for shipping.  We started with a small order, but plan to order more if the interest is there.  We also plan on printing on Women's Bikini style and Brief style in the near future as well.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING YOUR ORDER:

Both the Medium & Large pairs have been tried on and run true to size for Boy Shorts.  Please make sure you are familiar with this style and fit before ordering due to we will be unable to take returns on items if they are the wrong size.  We hope you understand the reasoning and respect the fact that re-selling underwear is not an issue we want to be involved in.

Thanks for your support!

Post Surgery Update on Sam's First FHO (pics at end)!!!

Well, Sam had an FHO a week ago from yesterday and is progressing very well!!!  He whines from time to time and you can tell he is in discomfort, but he is still his goofy, loving self.  He has 26 staples in his leg!

As for fundraising of this surgery goes, we are $99.00 short until we have reached our goal for the first leg!  Any donation, whether it be $1 or $5, it all adds up and goes to a great cause.  You can call in directly to the vet at 828-328-6697 and mention Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue and Sam, donate via PayPal, or mail a check to the rescue.

Update on Sam the Abused Pit Bull's Surgery and Fund-raising Request (Pics at end)

Hello friends of Sam! We would like to up date you on what has been happening with Sam over the last 3 weeks. After getting opinions from several vets we decided the best option for Sam would be to do a bilateral FHO with Dr. Moss at Veterinary Referrals of Hickory. With his history of having his blood pressure and pulse bottom out with anesthesia we wanted him to have 24 hour monitors and access to the best medical care he could have. After the surgeon giving us a rescue discount the FHO is $1,200 per hip. We had his right hip done yesterday (11/1/11). He did very well and was able to come home today. We are still in need of donations for this surgery and for his other hip surgery which will be performed in 3 months.

Donations can be sent via our chip in link: http://hartmanshavendogrescue.chipin.com/sams-hip-surgery

By calling the surgeon's office at:
828-328-6697 or 828-328-2660

Or mailed to:
Hartman's Haven
PO Box 742
Conover, NC 28613

Thank you all for your support and we appreciate any donations and/or forwarding on Sam's info!

Thanks!

Sam the Abused Pit Bull Update/Fund-raising Request (Pics included)

We would like to start this post by thanking all of those who supported Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue when we broke the news about Sam and his broken leg.  The monetary support, as well as the support given by e-mail, phone, and word of mouth, were a blessing and it helped make sure Sam could have the proper surgery needed to make sure he did not live in pain.

He had his pin in for 6 weeks and it seemed as though everything went smoothly.  The repair and the surgery itself healed great.  However, after the pin was removed Sam still appeared to be in pain. He was very cautions when he would sit down, very slow with standing up, and would only run a few feet without stopping. We took him back to the vet and the news was devastating. Sam has severe hip dysplasia in both of his legs.  We have received 2 estimates for surgery, one for TPO and one for FHO.  The quote for the TPO came in at $1,895 - $2,200 a hip, plus the initial consultation exam of $85.  This means the range for the TPO surgery is between $3,875 - $4,485.  The FHO will run between $1,885 - $2,500 from what we have been quoted as estimates so far.  We are currently waiting for estimates from additional veterinary hospitals in order to evaluate where we can get the best quality for the best price.  We are also seeking additional comments from veterinary surgeons in order to make sure which procedure will be best for Sam and maintaining a comfortable life.  We are more than happy to e-mail anyone the quotes and/or veterinarians numbers for verification if anyone would like that.  I will be posting those on the blog as soon as I have digital copies.

Donations can be sent via our chip in link: http://hartmanshavendogrescue.chipin.com/sams-hip-surgery
or mailed to:

Please follow the updates at hartmanshaven.blogspot.com and pass along Sam's story to as many individuals as you can!

New Pictures and Videos!!!

As promised, here is an update of the new addition to Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue!  We recently rescued a 7-8 week old male boxer puppy and are debating on naming him Ruckus!  He was one of two puppies that were not sold and were on their way to a kill shelter.  We got word and agreed to help them out.  The female has already been adopted and the male is next.

You can see Isabelle meeting the puppy for the first time here:  Isabelle & Ruckus and Sasha & Ruckus playing today.

Here are some pictures:

Awesome Update!!!

Sorry for the delay in updates lately, we are still working hard with the Rescue work and continuing to save lives.  The website is taking a bit longer due to time restraints with work, rescue, & sleep!  We will have another update tomorrow with 2 little surprise bundles of joy that are joining Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue!  They are canines, not us having babies just to clarify!

The Haworth College of Business, at Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, Michigan), has posted an article displaying our Rescue.  The article can be found at HHDR WMU Article and we encourage you to pass it along!

We want to thank the Haworth College of Business for the opportunity they have given us!  Also, we want to thank all of our supporters, volunteers, and those who spread the word!  Without you, we could not do what we do!

Thanks!

Big Question for our Followers & the Public

We all know that the economy is affecting all of us.  Non-profits in particular are seeing a decline in donations and financial support due to this and other items.  This has always been a fact and will continue to be in the future.

Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue appreciates all of our followers, regardless if they donate money, supplies, time, and/or sharing our cause.  We ask that even if you cannot donate, please pass our site/cause along in our goal of animal advocacy and that even small rescues can and WILL make a difference.

What we are asking is what makes YOU attracted to a non-profit organization and its causes?  We are expanding in our area when it comes to foster homes, rescues we work with, and businesses in our community.  It would be of great help to us if you could provide insight, opinions, facts, and ideas so that we can continue to grow and support as many canines as possible.

Once again, we appreciate your support and are very thankful for you all!

Update on Sam!

Sam has his pin removed today and was neutered.  He does not react well to being put under anesthesia and his vitals once again dropped during surgery.  The neuter only takes approximately 10 minutes, thus he was fine when he woke up.

He is drowsy, as expected, but still his lovable self when he sees you!  He wags his little tail and is very affectionate even though he had a rough day.  We kept him still this evening and let him rest, we will have new pictures here shortly to post.

Thanks again for all your support!

New Update of Sam (Pics at the End)!!!

Sorry for the delay on the update(s)!  We are still grateful for all who check-in, follow us, forward us, talk to us, and just downright support canine advocacy!   I had my dates wrong, so Sam will have his pin removed and neutered this coming week.

Isabelle, the Boxer, is the canine pack leader within our household.  She does not always welcome new dogs, especially crazy pups who like to get in your face and lick like crazy, i.e. Sam!!!  However, she is doing great with him and accepting him very well!  She gets wiggly and does her wiggle butt dance and plays with him.  She gets a little tired of the licking at times and puts him in his place.  Sam keeps up his good spirits and continues on to play.  He is still working on his stamina and wears out pretty quick, but he is getting better day by day!

He has recently been spending more and more time out with the pack and us, and is adapting well.  At first he was very confused and you could tell he was like "a soft bed, fresh water, and love?!?!  What is all of this!" and did everything he could to stay awake.  He know lies on a dog bed, on the love seat or next to another dog and takes a nap just like the rest of the pack!  We are working on his house training because you can tell he was never in a home to know where he cannot use the bathroom.

I, Justin, am looking forward to his pin being removed and his leg totally healed so I can start working on commands.  It will take time with the "sit" due to him not being able to sit properly for quite some time.  As soon as he is able and gets it, I feel very strong "shake" will be not too far behind!

Thanks again for all your support!  All of the support you give helps us continue on!

New Pictures of Sam!

Sam is improving when it comes to using his leg.  He uses it pretty well with running, but still limps when he walks.  He is slowly becoming part of the Hartman Pack.  He is one of those dogs that gets right into everyone's faces and licks and nibbles like crazy!  Some of them are alright with that, others are slowly adjusting.  A week from tomorrow he will have his pin removed and neutered.

Please continue to visit for updates of Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue and please keep spreading the word!

Update on Sam!!!

Sam is doing very well and had a good check-up at the vet on Wednesday!  Yesterday he was able to play a little bit and we introduced him to Isabelle, the alpha of the house.  The encounter went very well and Isabelle took to Sam and he was loving the attention!

We will have at a minimum of a video this weekend so everyone can see how playful Sam is!

Thanks again for supporting Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue!!!

Request for Help!!!

Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue is VERY interested in creating  a book that we could use in our fundraising process!  We have no problem writing (or help writing with volunteers) a book that we could work on and get published.  The process has slowly been worked on during the past year

The item we need the most help with is the illustration.  If you, or anyone you know would like to help with this part of our publication we would be ecstatic with this gesture!  We have all intentions of including the individual(s) and/or business(es) involved in this process!  This is a great PR opportunity or one that can help in regards to ones resume!

If you have any questions, comments, etc., please contact Justin at hartmanshaven@gmail.com or at 828-459-6522.

Thanks!

Justin

We Need YOUR Help!!!

Hartman’s Haven Dog Rescue is in the process of raising sponsorships in order to produce a 2012 calendar showcasing some of the rescue animals from our community.  Our goal is to produce a minimum of 1,500 calendars and hope to be able to do more.   This is open to businesses and individuals.

With the cause being helped by sponsorships, it will allow us to give calendars to those in the community who support the cause, but might not be able to pay the suggested donation.  We are asking that you consider a sponsorship opportunity and encourage you to ask any other questions regarding our mission, goals, and growth should you be interested.

We ask that you pass this to anyone that you think might be interested!!!
Thanks!

Sam, the Crazy, Loving Pit Bull

Well, as we all knew it, Sam is a GIANT lover!  He is still getting super excited when he see other dogs, as well as when he see Justin & Crystal!  He is putting more and more pressure on his back foot, showing the healing process, as he continues to improve!

Last night he made his first jump onto Justin's lap while he was on the couch.  This was VERY unexpected and needed both back legs in order to do this!  Then today, he jumped up on the couch twice by himself, and acted as if it were no big deal that he did this!  It has been very difficult to keep him under wraps and make sure he did not get super crazy and out of hand while in his healing process.
Sam has 3 more weeks as of this coming Thursday to get his pin out and neutered.  Without YOUR support this would not be possible and we THANK you with all of our hearts!  Please note, Sam would have been neutered when he went under the first time but his vitals went below the safe rate to do this while fixing his leg!
Sam is continuously receiving the LOVE he DESERVES and Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue appreciates EVERYTHING you do to pass our message along!!!  Without you, we would not be able to do what we do.  Please note, even the forwarding, mentioning, sharing, etc. of our message HELPS more than you even understand!!!

Bark at the Park

We would like to extend a HUGE thanks to the Hickory Crawdads organization and Bark Mobile for allowing Hartman's Haven Dog Rescue and Forever Home Canine Rescue for allowing us to set-up a table, bring foster dogs available for adoption, and spread the word of dog rescue!  We appreciate all that you do and are thankful for the opportunities you gave us!

We would also like to apologize to all of our followers that we forgot to take any pictures!  We hope everyone had a great Friday night like we did!

Sam, 13 days after Surgery!!! (Pics at the end)

Well, as you have seen, Sam is doing amazing for what had happened to him!  He will have the pin in his leg removed in 4 weeks, and then be neutered while under.  Please note, he was supposed to be neutered when the leg was fixed, but earlier in our posts we noted that his vitals dropped to unsafe numbers while the break was being fixed.

We would like to thank everyone again for their support, donations, word of mouth, and just the fact that YOU care!  Always remember, YOU do make a difference and WE appreciate YOU making that difference!

Thanks!

Sam Update for August 7, 2011 (Pics at end, video in post)

Well, Sam is starting to put a little weight on his repaired leg!  Thursday was a week after surgery and he seems to be healing well.  You can tell it is still a little tender, but he acts as though he wants to use it!  This is very good, due to the fact he use to curl it up and we were afraid we would have to continuously work it to encourage use of that leg.

You can also tell in this video, August 7, 2011, Sam wants to do nothing put play!  He lost a couple puppy teeth the other night and he shows that he is a puppy even more everyday!  He is going to be trouble here in a couple of weeks!  We just need to make sure he works up his strength before doing too much!

Thanks for reading and all of your continued support!
